How To Remove Bing from Windows 10

Bing is a web search engine created, managed and owned by Microsoft and as such, Windows 10 Operating System has Bing enabled. It was launched on the 3rd day of June 2009 as a replacement for Live search. Using Bing can be very frustrating at times when you only wanted to search for stuffs on your personal PC. The moment you input a value into the search box, by default, Windows 10 automatically sends same to Microsoft servers and returns with numerous results (mostly unwanted) from both the web and your PC thus increasing the work-load and slows down the PC.

Now, imagine the stress and time of having to scan through almost all the cluttered search results just to find what you were searching for on your local PC. In order to avoid this frustrating process, it is advisable to disable Bing on your Windows 10 PC. Here are the

Step by Step Procedure to Remove Bing from Windows 10 using Registry Editor?

The Registry Editor is a very powerful tool, so you must be very careful while there and please follow the instructions religiously because the simplest mistake might result to a computer accident thus making your PC unstable or inoperable.

So, in order to avoid any PC accident, I strongly recommend that you back up your registry before proceeding to this part of your PC. Here are the steps to remove Bing from your Windows 10 PC:

Step 1: Go to the windows button at the bottom-left corner of your PC and type the word “regedit” into the search box.

Step 2: The very first (if not only) result you will have is “regedit”.

Step 3: Left click the result/word “regedit”.

Step 4: Then proceed to the path HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Search.

The above quoted path is not expressly stated on the PC as written above. You will have to navigate from the first path “HKEY_CURRENT_USER” to the last “Search”. See the pictures below:

Step 5: Right-click on the “Search” option, then drag the mouse arrow to the word “New” and left click on the word “DWORD (32-bit) Value” from the options therein.

Step 6: Then rename the value “New Value #1” to read “BingSearchEnabled”.

Step 7: Thereafter, double-click on the value and set the value data to 0.

Step 8: Finally, double-click the word “CortanaConsent” on the 5th row and set its value data to 0 as above.

Removing Bing Through the Start Menu

This is also another process of removing Bing from Windows 10. This procedure is the easiest procedure ever except that it is outdated as a result of the “Windows 10 Anniversary Update” which was opined by majority of Tech Enthusiasts and Writers, that Cortana happens to have the biggest and best update therein.

It is also noteworthy to inform you that these procedures/steps will also disable Cortana which is Microsoft’s virtual assistant.

Step 1: Go to the bottom left corner of your PC and left-click the Start button.

Step 2: Once the start menu pops up, you will find the search space below.

Step 4: Then type the word “Cortana” in the Search space.

Step 5: Once you see the phrase “Cortana & Search settings” pops up, left-click on it.

Step 5: Then left-click the word “switch” right beneath the phrase “Cortana can give you suggestions, reminders, alerts, and more” at the top of the menu so that it turns off.

Step 6: Finally, left-click the word “switch” right beneath “Search online and include web results” to turn it off.
